Description of Classes

Basics (1 hr)
Introduction to the basics of Iyengar Yoga for complete beginners.

General  (1.5 hr)
Open to all students. Students may begin at this level. Covers a wide range of poses with a different emphasis every class. Appropriate variations given to students of different levels.

Experienced (1hr 45min)
An extended class for the serious Iyengar Yoga student. Please speak to Anna before attending this class.

Seniors (1 hr)
A class designed with the ageing body in mind. Poses are adapted to suit individual limitations. Also suitable for pregnant women and people recovering from injury or illness. Students must be able to walk unaided, and get up and down from the floor to sit and lie down.

Led Practice (1.5 hr)
A dynamic class where the teacher practices alongside students. The class is guided but there is minimal instruction. Minimum of 18 months experience recommended.

Ropes and Restorative (1.5 hr)
In this class we explore the use of ropes in a dynamic sequence followed up with related quietening and deeply restorative asanas. Suitable for all levels but experience in using props is recommended.

Private Sessions can be arranged with Anna. These sessions are for current students who want extra guidance on working with injuries or specific aspects of the practice. New students with remedial concerns are advised to begin with Basics or Seniors classes; a private session can then be arranged if required. Private sessions should support an ongoing yoga practice and are not meant to be one-off therapy sessions.

What You Need to Know

EQUIPMENT
Eternally YOGA is a fully equipped studio but you may prefer to bring your own mat.

WHAT TO WEAR
Wear something that gives you freedom to move. Shorts or tights (fitted on the knees) with a tank top or T-shirt is best. Yoga is practiced in bare feet.

FOOD AND DRINKS
It's best to leave at least 2 hours between a meal and class. If this is not possible for you, for your comfort keep the meal light. It's also best to be well hydrated before class and to drink after rather than during the class.

INJURIES AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS
Please let the teacher know if you suffer from back or neck injuries, heart condition, high blood pressure, glaucoma or any other injury/condition that may affect your yoga practice. Certain poses may not be appropriate or variations may be required. All information in this regard will be kept strictly confidential.

MENSTRUATION
Iyengar Yoga is a holistic practice where people are encouraged to connect and work with the needs of their own bodies. At this time of month, certain poses are better avoided and the focus should be more restorative. If you are menstruating, please inform the teacher before class.

ARRIVAL TO CLASS
Please try to arrive at least 10 minutes before the class starts to get settled before the class begins.
